Clock message and article feedback
Time is running out on summer vacation! As we prepare to start our first year as a turnaround what will be the clock message that you display in your class? It is obvious that the young man in the article used his time wisely. How can we use this article in our classes during Culture Week to inspire our students to excellence?

Bradwell Culture Week
Happy Monday!
After reading through the plans for Culture Week, please share your thoughts. What are the benefits of taking the time to focus on creating a positive school culture and what might be some disadvantages? What did we miss?

It has been a looooonnnnnggggg time since we have blogged and I'm looking forward to hearing your reactions and thoughts about the article "Schools Where Failure is Not an Option." Please share 1 idea that you agreed with and 1 idea that you did not agree with in the article. I will share mine after I hear some of yours. I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July holiday. I will be counting fingers on Wednesday for those of you who like to set off fireworks!

Happy Memorial Day!
After reading the article "Why Great Teachers Matter to Low Income Students" what was the most important sentence in the article to you? For me it was "The question is whether we have the political courage to take on those who defend a status quo that serves many adults but fails many children." This stands out to me because it is the reason why I chose to be a turnaround principal. I don't believe that being poor is equal to low academic achievement and it is my goal in life to prove that theory wrong and to constantly challenge the status quo.

Happy Monday!
After reading about the cold call strategy please share how you have used this strategy in your classroom. I'm sure all of you recognize this as something you've done with your students but may not have called it this. Did you use popsicle sticks or some other method? How did your students respond? Moment of truth: Have you ever used it as a "Gotcha!"? How did you feel after reading the guidelines?
